In this work, biochar derived from wood waste pyro-gasification was inserted as additive into concrete in the amount of 5% by weight of cement, for the development of a building material able to guarantee good mechanical and ecological performances. Biochar particles were inserted in the mix both sieved and ground in order to highlight the influence of these pretreatments on density, workability, compressive, tensile and flexural strength, as well as on fracture energy. Moreover, to assess the overall sustainability of the biochar-added concrete, a life cycle assessment (LCA) was performed, to evaluate the potential contribution of biochar to climate change mitigation within the system analyzed. The IPCC 2021 impact assessment method was used to highlight the different contributions to the global warming potential in terms of equivalent CO2 fossil, biogenic, land transformation and uptake.

摘要
