This chapter not only looks at how Ngugi narrates his life experiences but also how he weaves his story to refract and reflect the traumatising effects of colonialism. Ngugi endured traumatic moments and he creates a story line in which the trauma is given prominence. The study argues that Ngugi narrates his childhood experiences as a way of making a significant contribution to the Kenyan history, urging and convincing people that colonialism had negative impacts on the lives of Kenyans. He depicts the cruelty, and the degradation people went through to gain independence. He foregrounds Mau Mau wars, Second World War as the backdrop of his struggle to attain white man’s education therefore creating the irony of goodness verses badness of colonialism. The paper concludes that Ngugi liberates the enslaved minds of his indigenous people through his narratives. He interweaves real characters with different narrative techniques along with pre-independence historical incidents to steer e national and political activism. He demonstrates his decolonisation narrative by including stories that realistically depict the colonial era.
