The aim of this paper is to show and prove the importance of the role of systematic maintenance and monitoring of the condition of vehicles, machines and equipment on the success of the business of “Ceste” Ltd. and “Poduzeće za ceste” Ltd. from Slavonski Brod. Namely, due to high maintenance costs, a large number of downtimes and difficult management, research was conducted in order to select a maintenance model that contributes to better business operations of the company as a whole. In this sense, a new planned maintenance strategy was introduced, which consists of corrective and preventive maintenance. Preventive maintenance includes scheduled lubrication, scheduled repairs, preventive inspections, searching for and eliminating weak points, and condition maintenance. Maintenance monitoring is the base of the modern approach to the application of planned maintenance. Simultanously by systematicaly applied approach of maintenance, the indices of company's efficiency can be increased, the number of failures and downtime time can be reduced. The maintenance and transport costs of vehicles, machines and equipment in companies engaged in civil engineering can be decreased several times.
