Analysis of Downtime of the Technical Systems of the Lime Production Plant for Increasing the Efficiency of the Maintenance Service

Maintenance of technical systems refers to the process of inspecting, repairing, or improving a device or structure to eliminate a malfunction, improve its existing condition, or prolong its working life. The cost-effectiveness of maintenance depends on the stoppage costs and maintenance costs involved. Minimal maintenance causes frequent production stoppages and increases costs, while too rigorous maintenance can lead to increased investment costs. This article aims to analyze the maintenance of technical systems as a basis for further financial analysis, to achieve better financial profitability. The data used for this analysis was compiled from the maintenance service of a Calx lime production plant. The database consists of a total of five variables, which include shift, error position, type, cause, and duration. Shift, position, type, and cause are qualitative nominal variables, while duration is a numerical continuous variable. A total of 588 stoppages were recorded in the factory over one year. Based on the analysis conducted, it is recommended that the maintenance service should pay close attention to the stoppage of the dispenser, determine the exact reason for it, and devise a solution to reduce its occurrence. The results of the T-tests conducted at the significance level of p = 0.05 show if an unexpected stoppage of the plant occurs, the workers usually remove the stoppage within a time frame of 3 h, but never faster than 30 min. The results of the ANOVA method suggest that maintenance services are equally productive for each shift and that workers are well distributed across individual shifts.
