Access to a machine during inspection and maintenance is a critical situation in terms of safety in industrial environment. Operator must enter the area of the automated machine in a safe manner that does not put in danger human health or life or cause damage to the machine. To access machine area in a safe way, safety measures must be taken to ensure that no unforeseen events occur. The procedures for entering the machine area are defined by safety regulations made by government and the steel producers. Failure to follow safety regulations significantly increases the risk of incidents. For this reason, the procedures must be clearly defined, well implemented and presented to the workers in the steel plant. This paper describes the procedures and equipment involved in the safety procedures prior to inspection and maintenance work in the steel plant. Furthermore, a new approach to the immobilization sequence is proposed that is optimized for easy implementation and a user-friendly oriented that many existing procedures lack. Maintenance cost efficiency is improved by reducing machine preparation time and replacement of mechanical parts with new approach to machine immobilization. Sequence is described as step-by-step procedure together with implementation of sequence in PLC and safety equipment management.
