Generic Core and Soft Skills for Maritime Industry 4.0: A Conceptual Framework
摘要
The transition of education and training to adapt to the changing economic, technological, social, and environmental landscape of the contemporary 21st century is imperative. Qualified human capital and potentials, along with enhanced education and maritime training, necessitate a reevaluation and enhancement of skills to align with the dynamic demands of the current environment and labor market. This is crucial for the transformation of human resources in the era of digital transition in industry 4.0. While traditional technical skills appear to struggle to maintain dominance in engineering sciences and professions, governments, educational institutions, and industries recognize the seriousness of the moment. They aim to draw attention to the increasing need for technological awareness, digital literacy, environmental consciousness, and related soft skills. With the aim of contributing to the global reset and enhancement of known management practices in the maritime industry, this paper at a conceptual level examines the nature of the Industry 4.0 concept and through the concept mapping, juxtaposes it with the concepts of “just transition” and Global Maritime Professionals (GMP). It proposes a set of generic skills divided into core and soft skills for human resources in the maritime sector. The outcomes of this study can prove highly beneficial to educational institutions, decision-makers, industry representatives, students, and employees in the maritime sector, as well as to all others involved in the pursuit of building prosperous maritime communities.
