Self-lubricating sliding bearings are widely used in numerous industrial applications, primary regarding their specific lubrication mechanism. This lubrication mechanism is a main advantage compared with classical sliding bearings, where their production is not so complicate and makes lower price. This kind of bearing could be simple to assembly and in operating produce less noise and vibrations. According to their material and type of operating, self-lubricating sliding bearings could operate with oil (grease) in its own material structure or even without any amount of lubricant. After several numerical and experimental investigations on porous metal bearings conducted at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade authors of the paper introduce some new materials and methods such are different composite, or polymer materials suitable for self-lubricating sliding bearing production. Those materials allow bearing operating in dry lubrication regime and makes a step forward in improving performances this kind of bearings. Novel class of two-dimensional materials, derived from MAX phase, named MXenes have ability for widely use in fields and applications due to their unique structure and properties. The distinct structure, low shear resistance, and easy-to-modify ability endow MXenes with particularly superior lubrication potentials sound excellent for application in self-lubrication bearings. The main goal of the paper is to explain and suggest this new materials aimed to improve and optimized operational performances of classical self-lubricating sliding bearings.
