Even if the cutting tools and cutting processes are well-established domains, they are still actual and in continuous development. The article investigates the evolution of these domains in the last fifteen years and identifies some narrower specific areas of research within the large domain of cutting technologies. Some particular categories of cutting tools and processes are the subject of the research: milling, turning, and drilling. The data were collected from mainstream manufacturing engineering journals. They reveal a continuous increase in the number of articles published, with very few exceptions. Based on the findings of the investigation, and on the new demands of the industry, some future research directions are identified and stated.

摘要

Even if the cutting tools and cutting processes are well-established domains, they are still actual and in continuous development. The article investigates the evolution of these domains in the last fifteen years and identifies some narrower specific areas of research within the large domain of cutting technologies. Some particular categories of cutting tools and processes are the subject of the research: milling, turning, and drilling. The data were collected from mainstream manufacturing engineering journals. They reveal a continuous increase in the number of articles published, with very few exceptions. Based on the findings of the investigation, and on the new demands of the industry, some future research directions are identified and stated.
