A Rapidly Deployable High-Performance Speech Neuroprosthesis
摘要
The chapter details the development of a highly effective and rapidly deployable speech neuroprosthesis, which earned first place in the 2023 BCI Awards. The neuroprosthesis, created by a collaborative team from UC Davis, Stanford, and Brown University, translates brain signals into text and voice in real time. The project, focusing on an individual with severe speech impairments like those caused by ALS, leverages advanced intracortical neural recordings to enhance communication abilities. This system includes both brain-to-text and brain-to-voice components, with notable advancements in decoding accuracy and real-time voice synthesis. The chapter includes an interview with key researchers, discussing the technology’s impact, the challenges overcome, and future directions for improving naturalistic speech capabilities.
