Impact of Road Widening at Intersections on Vehicle Delays and Level of Service Under Fixed and Adaptive Traffic Signal Control
摘要
When it is necessary to increase the capacity of urban streets, in most cases the roadway is widened directly at intersections, which are places where the overall capacity of the street decreases. For making management decisions in terms of reconstruction of the street and road network it is recommended to apply modeling with the help of specialized software products. In the process of simulation microsimulation of traffic situation at the intersection of Tobolskiy trakt St. - Sudoremontnaya St. in Tyumen with the help of SmartAdaptive + software product with potential roadway widening and implementation of adaptive traffic-actuated signal control. It is shown that the current coordinated traffic signal control scheme can be supplemented with adaptive control at one of the nodes to minimize delays both on the main and crossed direction. Vehicle delays and maximum queue lengths with and without a supplementary lane device are computed and compared by statistical tests for adaptive and fixed traffic control.
