This chapter initially presents a brief analysis of the statistical data to better understand the social dynamics of Haitians living in Brazil and their profile. It will also examine the socio-political context that contributed to their decision to come to Brazil and other South American countries, as well as the routes to reach the Amazonian borders. In addition, it shows how the dynamic of differentiation between Haitian migrants operates from the categories of “kongo,” “vyewo” and “dyaspora.” These categories are based on territorial origin (city vs countryside), the intensity of the social network and the sociability, the knowledge of local customs and social usages, linguistic knowledge and practices and dress patterns and appearances. This contribution will then show that from the uses of the term diaspora, two verbs—leaving (pati) and travelling (vwayaje)—allow to describe levels of mobility revealing forms of social hierarchy.

摘要
