Venomous animals are found nearly worldwide and present a threat to those engaged in agricultural activities. Venoms are complex bioactive substances that collectively produce a wide spectrum of clinical effects. Major classes of venomous organisms impacting farmers include snakes, arachnids (spiders, scorpions, centipedes), and insects (bees, wasps, caterpillars). Snakes cause the most significant morbidity and mortality from venomous animals worldwide. The problem of human envenomation is best managed by prevention, effective first aid, minimizing ineffective practices, aggressive supportive care, and the administration of antivenom when appropriate.
