Sustainability in Architectural Design Education
摘要
The conventional approach to architectural education is predicated on an inductive, exploratory, and iterative process, whereby the problem is repeatedly addressed and refined across a series of cycles incorporating feedback and evaluation. This process provides an opportunity to integrate sustainability-oriented thinking as well as in the initial analysis as in the evaluation iterative phases. This work proposes a methodology to integrate sustainability into the traditional process of architectural design and education. This tool is based on the architect’s ethical commitment and the application of gaming techniques such as competition, motivation and interaction under systemic and experiential conditions. The methodology encompasses the following tools: (a) An initial theoretical assessment of building impacts on resource consumption by architectural typology, (b) A reference table of strategies at urban and temporal scale of architectural project impacts and, (c) A table of bioclimatic strategies for lighting and natural heating and cooling. This research will enhance the understanding of the teaching of architectural design and explore the evolution towards a sustainability mindset in architectural education.
