This chapter aims to provide readers with a framework for evaluating the impacts of COVID-19 on innate (i.e., nature) and experiential (i.e., nurture) factors in child development. The COVID-19 timeline will be reviewed through the lens of developmental and behavioral pediatrics. Readers are encouraged to revisit 2020 through 2022 through the eyes of a child acclimatizing to unprecedented times, giving serious consideration to how containment measures shaped children’s lives. Additionally, adverse childhood experiences and principles of trauma-informed care are reviewed to encompass holistic health. As the chapter concludes, readers, healthcare providers, lawmakers, large and small corporations, and educational and community agencies play a crucial role in optimizing environmental settings and policies that promote positive child development, especially in preparation for future pandemics.
