摘要

This chapter explores conflict management, negotiation, and the art of hearing and saying “no” in academic medicine. It presents strategies for handling workplace conflict through a 5-C model: keeping calm, expanding clarity, understanding comedy (drama), communication (radical listening), and culture of understanding personalities. The chapter emphasizes the importance of effective communication and negotiation in resolving conflicts, fostering collaboration, and creating win–win outcomes. It also discusses recognizing toxic work environments, using the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Model, and mastering negotiation techniques, including setting clear goals, authoritative standards, and relationship building to navigate complex interactions in academic settings.
