Finances in Academic Medicine
摘要
This chapter explores the financial complexities of academic medical centers (AMCs) and provides emerging physician leaders with essential knowledge about compensation, operational efficiency, and financial health. It covers key financial concepts such as relative value units (RVUs), full-time equivalents (FTEs), hospital length of stay, and patient experience, and highlights the importance of productivity and value-based incentives in compensation plans. The chapter emphasizes the need for physician leaders to understand finances, assess institutional financial stability, and negotiate competitive salaries while considering workplace culture, leadership, and location for long-term job satisfaction.
