In recent years, the biopharmaceutical market in the most technologically developed countries has made strong advances that help stabilize, maintain, and prolong human health. The biopharmaceutical market in Mexico did not anticipate these changes in time. There are some products that are strongly marketed in our country, such as monoclonal antibodies (adalimumab, bevacizumab, infliximab, rituximab, and etanercept), hormones and growth factors (filgrastim), vaccines (influenza and hepatitis B), and peptides (liraglutide, teriparatide, and leuprolide). These drugs focus on the most relevant diseases in Mexico, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cancer. COFEPRIS recently authorized the first cell therapy treatment, with CAR-T cells, for childhood leukemia at the UANL. Most recently, infectious disease researchers completed the registration process for a SARS-COVID-19 vaccine, Patria. There is still a long way to go to prepare new generations of professionals to help reduce the knowledge gap in terms of biopharmaceuticals. This chapter is focused on looking at the women in biotechnology who help make this field of pharmaceuticals possible, who stand out for their contributions in the areas of regulation, technical knowledge, research, and laboratory management. They share some of their experiences and anecdotes that marked their path to success, which have allowed them to maintain a work/life balance. This experience encourages and stimulates girls and young women in Mexico to select careers in the biopharmaceutical and STEM area, seeking to continue to make an impact on health care and human well-being. Thus, this chapter will include interviews, conducted by Alice G. Soto with opinion leaders in the biopharmaceutical area, which will take us through a review of the history of women over several decades and how the taboos of entrepreneurship, management, and contribution in this segment have been changing. We hope this chapter will be interesting to the reader.
