“Dear Mummy! I Am Well and Happy!” Thickening and Thinning of Child Migrant Kinship Through Time
摘要
Arthur was born in 1944 to a single mother serving in the voluntary forces of the British army. He grew up with his grandparents in the south of England before his mother returned home. His grandfather was a decorated veteran of two wars—“a respected, strict, and a ruthless man”, Arthur described him. The grandparents had lost all three of their sons in the war, and Arthur suspected the grandfather might have taken his anger and pain out on him. When his mother returned from the war, Arthur went to live with her, but because she was working long hours and was rarely home, he mostly had to tend to himself.
