Linguistic Duality Versus Multilingual Realities. Decolonizing Labels as a Way Forward?
摘要
In this chapter, I review labels used in Canadian public discourse on official bilingualismBilingualism as well as labels used in the educational system to describe students’ linguistic repertoires upon school entry. I argue that the ideological underpinning of these labels in some cases originates in the colonial past of the country and in other cases relates to singular notions of native speakerism and monolithic conceptualizations of language, characteristic of Northern scholarship.
