Evaluation of Wind Energy Potential in the Dhaya Region, Sidi Bel Abbès
摘要
This study aims to assess the wind potential of the Dhaya region located in the southern part of Sidi Bel Abbès, Northwest Algeria, using three years of collected data (2020–2021–2022). Statistical analysis of the data confirms the significant wind potential in the study area, with an average wind speed of 6.5 m/s at a height of 10 m, a power density of 383 w/m2, and Weibull parameters A = 6.9 m/s, K = 1.65 from the South and South-South-West (SSW) direction. In terms of temporal analysis, it was observed that the nighttime conditions at the site are relatively calm, with windier periods occurring in June (8.13 m/s) and November (10.3 m/s). Consequently, based on these positive findings, we have opted to establish a 12 MW wind farm in this region utilizing the Vestas V66 2 MW turbine technology, known for its efficiency and reliability in similar wind conditions. The wind resources in this selected region are highly conducive to electricity generation highlighting the potential for sustainable energy development in the Dhaya region.
