Metals are overwhelming modern environment. The increased prevalence of some diseases is related to exposure to metals. The metal, its forms and its distribution in the environment, accidental exposures in history, the effects on health, mechanisms of intoxification and epigenetic involvement for the development of disease are described for Mercury, Chromium, Arsenic, Lead, Cadmium, Aluminum, Manganese, Magnesium, Nickel, Calcium, Asbestos, Silica, Copper, Cobalt, Selenium, Iron and Beryllium. The link of development of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, cardiovascular disease and cardiotoxicity, chronic lung disease, the endocrine disruptive effects and infertility and diabetes mellitus as well as different types of cancer due to chronic exposure are analyzed. In most cases, oxidative stress and epigenetic modification are the underlying mechanisms.
