Malignant Hyperthermia

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a rare but potentially fatal reaction to halogenated volatile anesthetics and succinylcholine. There are a few genetic associations, but not all reported cases have a genetic polymorphism identified. It is critical for practicing anesthesiology to recognize the signs and symptoms of MH and know the management of MH. This comprehensive chapter contains a case scenario, narrative, and progression as well as a scoring rubric for the evaluation of MH perioperative management.
