Circular Fashion for Sustainability: Materials, Design, and Technology
摘要
Circular fashion is a sustainability initiative taken by the fashion industry to reduce the ill-effects of fashion on the environment. The process of circular fashion involves utilising the produced material as many times as possible in different forms before throwing them as waste in landfills. It is imperative to employ the circular fashion principles to safeguard the environment and also protect the environment for a better future. This chapter explores the concept of circular fashion as a sustainable alternative to the traditional linear fashion model. By tracing the evolution of the fashion industry and its environmental impact, the research highlights the urgent need for a circular approach that prioritises waste reduction, resource efficiency, and product longevity. This chapter delves into the core principles of circular fashion, encompassing reduction, reuse, recycle, and redesign strategies. Furthermore, it explores a wide range of sustainable materials, innovative recycling technologies, and emerging bio-fabrication methods. The study also emphasises the importance of designing durable and long-lasting apparel through careful fabric selection, construction techniques, and timeless design aesthetics. The fashion industry’s sustainability evolution and impact on the environment are also discussed in this chapter. By combining these elements, the chapter provides details on the growth of circular fashion and provides valuable information for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and consumers to foster a more sustainable fashion future.
