Adverse interactions deserve attention as they are frequently responsible for significant mortality and morbidity burdens in older people, pediatric populations, and other vulnerable groups. Ideally, prescribers and patients should know the onset and duration of the spectrum of biological activities and the site of actions to decide on drug choice, dose, and scheduling while predicting adverse drug interactions and possible antidotes. The mechanism of the drug’s action and the patient’s medical profile with a wide range of lifestyles (consumption, association of medications, nutrients, herbs, vitamins) can provide a helpful remediation (reverse, counteract, treat, or manage) strategy. A careful review of medication and food attributes, patient’s medication, nutritional history, education about possible interactions, evidence-based recommendations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective monitoring for signs of adverse effects or therapeutic failure are pertinent to mitigating adverse interactions. This chapter explores the mechanism of adverse interactions, associated risks, and relevant regulations to advance plausible remediation strategies.
