Traits Models of Personality in LLMs
摘要
People use a term “personality” and the concept behind it constantly in folk language referring to a vaguely defined human nature. Let us think, for example, of generosity. More or less, we know who a generous person is and how they behave. We can expect them to share resources, contribute to charity, and demonstrate compassion toward others. But when we delve into the process of becoming a generous person, we find the issue is not simple at all. One could ask whether we are born with personality traits, or we acquire them in our lifespan. Whether I have been generous since birth or become so by growing up and observing my parents’ way of being. Going further, can I increase my inner generosity level by acting like a generous person considering that the Latin etymology of personality is persona—a mask? Or can I decrease it by stopping to support others but in such a case am I still a generous person? Finally, does being generous mean that I contribute to all charities I have heard about and give money to every homeless person I meet, or can I be more selective with my generosity?
