The reorganization of artistic practices has been closely intertwined with economic, social, and political transitions. Artistic practices are inevitably a part of a temporal drift. This has led to changes in the roles of those who inhabit the so-called “art world.” Meanwhile, communication methods and symbolic expressions have heightened the dynamism of art, with human perception emerging as a key aspect of these changes. Art calls for an aesthetics, or discipline that can decode the perceptive models with which it coexists. These perceptive models (distraction, indifference, and retentive inability) emerge as “constellations” of a specific epistemic system—i.e., a new visual epistemology. Can perception be regarded as an epistemic axis in the reception and creation of present art? Do these novel perceptive models signal new horizons for a phenomenological aesthetics? These inquiries offer new perspectives and introduce diverse considerations into today’s artistic practices.
