Edible mushrooms, recognized for their rich array of bioactive compounds, have garnered increasing attention for their potential therapeutic benefits in diabetes. This abstract provides an overview of the role of edible mushroom bioactive compounds in diabetes management and prevention. Mushrooms such as Ganoderma lucidum, Agaricus bisporus, and Pleurotus spp. are highlighted for their diverse bioactive constituents, including polysaccharides, polyphenolsPolyphenols, and peptides, which exhibit various pharmacological properties relevant to diabetes. These compounds demonstrate antihyperglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and insulin-sensitizing effects, contributing to improved glycemic control, insulin secretion, and insulin sensitivity. Additionally, they modulate key pathways implicated in diabetes pathogenesis, such as insulin signaling, glucose metabolism, and oxidative stress. Furthermore, mushroom bioactives possess potential protective effects against diabetes-related complications, including nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular diseases. This abstract provides the promising role of edible mushroom bioactive compounds as adjunctive or preventive measures in the management of diabetes, offering a natural and sustainable approach toward combating this escalating global health burden.
