Lung ultrasound looking for B lines and pleural effusions suggests pulmonary edema. E/e’ measurement, passive leg raise, and end-expiratory occlusion pressure are all accurate ways to predict the fluid status of critically ill patients. Using these techniques can help clinicians wean for mechanical ventilation faster, and reduce overall mortality.
