In this chapter we discuss patient positioning and safety, ergonomics, practitioner positioning, and holding and manipulation of the ultrasound probe. Patient and ultrasonographer positions can greatly affect the quality of the images obtained. We discuss the proper technique for holding the probe. We also describe the five basic probe movements.
