Every year, approximately 841,000 people are diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), causing 782,000 deaths worldwide [1]. Colorectal cancer is diagnosed in 1.8 million people annually, with an estimated 50% of these patients developing colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) [1, 2]. For liver cancer patients, surgical removal of the tumor remains the best chance for a cure. Unfortunately, only a small proportion of these patients are suitable for liver resection (LR), mainly due to decompensated liver disease. Liver transplantation (LT) offers a potential cure by removing the tumor with the widest margin and eliminating the pro-carcinogenic hepatic microenvironment.
