Gastric Cancer
摘要
Adenocarcinoma of the stomach (CaG) is the most common type of malignant neoplasm of the stomach, accounting for approximately 94% of all cases. Despite a decrease in incidence, it continues to be a disease with a very poor prognosis and ranks as the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in both genders combined. Japan, South Korea, China, Latin America (Chile), and Eastern Europe are the areas with the highest incidence. According to the GLOBOCAN 2020 estimates, stomach cancer caused approximately 800,000 deaths (accounting for 7.7% of all cancer deaths). A study by EUROCARE, which collects data from 82 Cancer Registries Centers in 23 European countries, demonstrated a 5-year age-adjusted survival rate of less than 25% in patients diagnosed from 1995 to 1999, with only a modest increase in recent years (Verdecchia). Thanks to excellent screening and early detection programs, survival rates for patients with CaG have increased, particularly in Japan and South Korea.
