Customisation and 3D Printing of Fixed Appliance Brackets

The conventional concept of providing prefabricated orthodontic fixed appliances has certainly been brought into question for some time. The digital era has now made the provision of fully customised 3D-printed brackets via a fully digital workflow, a reality. Customised 3D-printed brackets have the major advantage over any other system of being individually designed to the patient’s enamel surfaces on the buccal aspect of his/her teeth. This digital process has been devised to ensure perfect contouring of the bracket base to the dental anatomy being presented with. It is undoubtedly reassuring to anticipate further developments in this technique to improve the existing methods further. This chapter aims to describe the process involved in providing this type of contemporary orthodontics.
