Developments in Digital Orthodontics

摘要

The change brought about by the improvements in digitisation and the availability of modern technology has been revolutionary. This is no different for the orthodontic specialism. From extra- and intraoral scanners producing 3D images to sectional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), mandibular motion tracking devices, computer-assisted-design/computer-assisted-manufacturing (CAD/CAM), restorative milling for same-day restorations, 3D printing of devices, and completely digitised orthognathic surgery planning are milestones that have all been reached recently but adopted very quickly. Nowadays, we are also in a position to discuss the transformation that will be brought about by artificial intelligence (AI) and dental-dedicated MRI scanners for repeated radiation-free imaging allowing frequent follow-ups to ensure improvement of chronic conditions. This chapter describes these revolutionary techniques and delves into what is awaiting us in the near future.
