This introductory chapter sets out the importance of discourse for generating acceptance of military interventions and highlights the need to investigate the continuing processes which produce, sustain, and challenge a dominant narrative. It also puts forth the conceptual model used throughout the book, a visual representation of the marriage of these three sites of production akin to a DNA helix wherein they are constantly revolving around and interacting with one another, shifting in positions of power in relation to and based upon their representational productions. It posits the necessity of analysing the interaction between these three producers of discourse in order to fill the gaps within our lexicon regarding the discursive production of conflicts.
