How the Capitalist Media Altered Our Epistemology and Led to the Rise of the Far-Right

  • Peter Milonas

摘要

In this chapter, I draw on the work of various theorists, including Parenti, Hall, Postman, Herman and Chomsky, to construct a politico-economic analytic framework. This framework helps me analyze the control of news production by mass media owners and top managers. I also examine the rise and structure of corporate power and its influence on news organizations’ dissemination of dominant ideology. Additionally, I delve into the propaganda model and theories surrounding television news, entertainment, and knowledge production. These theories show how television news programs have shaped our understanding of the world and normalized far-right ideas and beliefs. Ultimately, the mass media acts as a “safety net.”
