This chapter explores the world of photography in Iran from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. These years were marked by significant social and political upheavals that brought about a shift in the way reality was perceived and represented through photography. In the midst of the revolution and the Iran-Iraq War, photography took on the crucial role of documenting and capturing the harsh realities of the time. There were limited opportunities for artistic interpretation of the events, and purely aesthetic considerations took a backseat. Photography primarily aimed to provide a committed representation of reality, a commitment that was often reflected through faithful depiction and, paradoxically, through a compassionate exploration of humanistic and ethical issues.
