“A Real Monster”

Chapter 3 tells the story of a successful female professor, Avital Ronell, who was treated as a pariah for sexual offenses which appear far less severe than offenses attributed to male professors from her own and comparable institutions. This chapter illustrates not only the weakness of the evidence used to condemn Ronell, but also how the weak evidence used against her came to be seen as strong and compelling.
