A distributed system consists of a set of computing nodes connected by a computer network to perform a common task. We review basic concepts related to distributed algorithms running in distributed systems in this chapter and provide brief description of the contents of the book which consists of Background, Fundamental Algorithms, Distributed Graph Algorithms and Applications parts.
