This chapter continues the history of the Irish greyhound into the later twentieth-century taking into account the post-Yeatsian poetry of Patrick Kavanagh and Conor O’Callaghan, Frank McCourt’s memoir Angela’s Ashes (1996), novels by Paul Murray (An Evening of Long Goodbyes, 2004) and by Sara Baume (Spill Simmer Falter Wither, 2015), films scripted by the Belfast writer Pearse Elliott (Man About Dog, 2004, and The Mighty Celt, 2005), and young adult fiction by Roddy Doyle (A Greyhound of a Girl, 2011). The chapter ends with a tribute to the humanitarian work carried out in Ireland on behalf of retired racers.
