Failure to detect abnormalities in a growing foetus can impact the lives of parents and children. The stages where failures can arise include conception, fertilisation and pregnancy. They can involve errors during fertilisation, IVF, preimplantation testing, ultrasound and prenatal tests. Actions arising from these errors can lead to claims of wrongful birth and wrongful life. This chapter addresses these issues in many countries.
