Implementing Technology in Student-Centric Learning Environments: Prospects and Challenges
摘要
The recent advancements in technology and science have not only introduced tremendous changes in each walk of human life, but they have also confronted people with challenges. The domain of education especially higher education is one in which technology especially Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Education Technology (ET) have played significant roles in shaping and facilitating a learner-centric class embellished with technological tools and platforms especially digital platforms which have brought the global learners on a platform to interact and develop their competence. The online learning platforms MOOC, MOODLE, SWAYAM, NPTEL, e-Pathshala, Swayam Prabha etc. have not only played intermediary roles between learners and the learning materials, but they have also democratized education universally. The Open Educational Resources (OERs) are exemplary in this case which can be accessed anytime, anywhere by an individual globally irrespective of any caste, class, religion, ethnicity, and demography. However, some of the scholars in this domain have shown their dissatisfaction with the use of technology in higher education. They think that technology has its own limitations, therefore, it becomes a barrier to imparting knowledge to the pupils and providing them with quality education. In their opinion, teaching-learning in traditional classrooms happens freely and seamlessly. They find the use of technology a challenging aspect, therefore, they disagree with its implementation in the field of education. This research paper, therefore, attempts to present an analytical study of the implementation of technology and technological devices, prospects, and challenges in higher education.
