Monitoring of Greenhouse for Improved Medicinal Plants on Pharmacological Demand via IoT

The development of greenhouse control systems is a result of the interaction of several environmental elements that have an impact on growth and production. It is obvious that a precise understanding of the factors restricting the primary production among medicinal plants is required in order to match the supply of food and pharmaceuticals for the need of the world’s population. The objective of the work is to monitor remotely and automate greenhouses using IoT technology to promote the growth of the bioactive substances among medicinal plants. An Arduino-based greenhouse system collects the environmental data, which is then transmitted in both offline and online modes to an Android smartphone. A GSM modem is used to transmit SMS messages that show the state of the environmental parameters at any given time. The user receives an SMS when the sensor value exceeds a set threshold. All farmers can manage their greenhouses from anywhere as long as they are constantly aware of the conditions inside. A control actuators unit is connected for maintaining the cooling fan, exhaust fan, water pump, artificial light, and motor pump to change environmental conditions and send SMS. Additionally, data parameters transmitted over Ethernet to mobile devices, doing away with the requirement for SMS and enable the database to record all environmental parameters. Therefore, the user can use Android mobile to monitor and control parameters. The farmers will be benefitted from the increased production and economic growth if the internet of things is successfully implemented in managing the greenhouse environment.
