A Review of Recent Advancements in Hybrid Reversible Watermarking Techniques for Medical Image Transmission

Watermarking involves the integration of data into various forms of media, including audio, video, and text. The data usually involves the details of the author or some details related to the image. This study delves into the practical application of watermarking within the medical realm, specifically addressing the need to exchange medical images among doctors. By embedding patient particulars directly into the image, it becomes simpler to uphold a direct correlation between the image and the patient’s information. It is crucial, however, to ensure that the quality is maintained at receiver. This objective can be achieved through the implementation of a reversible watermarking technique. Within this methodology, patient-related data is embedded as watermarks within cover images, which are subsequently transmitted to the intended recipients. Owing to the reversible nature of watermarking, the recipient is able to fully and accurately recover the image, thus safeguarding patient data without any degradation in content quality. Earlier endeavors in reversible data concealment were centered around histogram shifting and differential expansion. Presently, a myriad of hybrid techniques have been developed to enhance performance of watermarking. In this paper, we undertake a discussion about recent advancements in reversible watermarking employing a hybrid approach.
