Nonvascular emergencies involving the abdomen and thorax are common and represent areas where interventional radiology (IR) can add value in patient care. Familiarity with the common emergency conditions which may require IR input related to abscess drainage, biliary obstruction, urological obstruction, pleural drainage, and large bowel obstruction stenting is essential given the radiologist may be the first physician to contact IR. Appreciation of the features of nonvascular procedural complications is also imperative. Clinicians will often contact radiologists with queries regarding previously inserted tubes and catheters; this chapter also serves to provide an overview on how to deal with such inquiries.
