There are many different types of players in the responsible investing space—asset managers, policymakers, advisors, international bodies, policymakers, and investors. Each group pursues its own goals to a great degree, and each is influenced by its own priorities. Yet they are all committed to the fundamental proposition at the heart of the proposition: aligning values with asset management. Tracing how these players have shaped the growth of ESG with their own respective agendas, I explore each group’s dynamics and priorities and distill their primary roles, objectives, and challenges.
