My admission to university brought its rewards. My parents decided to take us out of the prison of the tiny room in the apartment building on Plapouta Street. After brief visits to various apartments for rent, the right apartment was found. It was on the top floor of the “blue” apartment building in Exarcheia Square. It was the best-known building in that area back then. It was large and imposing. It was surrounded by two-story houses with balconies and gardens. Our apartment was bordered by a large terrace. From that terrace, we could see all the famous sights of Athens—the Acropolis, Philοpappos Hill, and Lycabettus Hill. We could see all the way to the sea. Our apartment had yet another advantage. We could clandestinely watch the movies being shown in the outdoor movie theater across from us. The apartment was comfortable; we each had our own room.
