How to Create More Inclusive Universities?

The present text is a commentary on chapter six of this book. I had the opportunity to get to know this second version of the Tandem Project at the meeting held at the University of Oslo in April 2023. From that moment on, I was amazed by the enormous potential of this project and especially by the revolutionary idea of building knowledge from differences, but without minimizing those differences. I was especially challenged by the work of Karen Carolina, Fillipe Silva Queiroz, Wilson Mensah. I wanted to pick up on a question that they leave enunciated in their work and for this purpose, I organized the text in three main parts. First, I present the personal and academic motivations that shape my position on the subject. Then, I extend the theoretical background of the authors with some conceptual precisions on inclusion and intersectionality. Later, I reread the authors’ empirical work, pointing out the implications of the concept of semiotic borders in the field of inclusion in education. Finally, I conclude in an attempt to contribute to answering the question they posed: How to create more inclusive universities?
