摘要

António Tomás, a distinguished professor of anthropology, is renowned for his incisive research on the interplay between war, the environment, and border formation. Currently, he is the lead investigator on an interdisciplinary multisite research project in Angola, Namibia, and South Africa. António’s transition to academia was sparked by a need for in-depth investigation and catalyzed by his research on Amílcar Cabral, leading him to pursue advanced studies in anthropology. His academic sojourn has seen him travel from Angola to Portugal to the USA, and now in South Africa. His scholarly work is distinguished by ethnographic studies in Angola, particularly his research on the Roque Santeiro market, which remains a seminal contribution to understanding urban transformation in postcolonial Africa. His journey, as captured in this chapter reflects a thoughtful engagement with the complexities of identity, displacement, and intellectual pursuits within the African continent.
