Protection of the marine environment and establishment and management of marine parks and protected zones off the coast and distant offshore islands are major issues of discussion in the light of sustainable development of resources on the one hand, whilst promoting concepts of benefiting from a Blue Economy and promoting Green Technology. The narrative in this chapter may be considered a controversial mix of topics; however, policy makers and administrators are confronted with unifying themes and issues. A basic principle in the development of policies is the recognition of multiple uses and users within reserved areas and public spaces and the conflictual issues between economic development and society’s needs.
