Traffic Monitoring and Maritime Safety

The security of marine craft and the safety of mariners and other users of ocean space, above and below the sea surface are paramount. Administrators and stakeholders are obligated to ensure that the sea lanes that are adjacent to the coastlines of maritime states are equipped to handle marine traffic are effectively managed. In this chapter a suite of maps and other graphics portrays marine and aeronautical traffic within and over Malaysia’s maritime jurisdictional limits. The narrative alludes to the fact that the Straits of Malacca and Singapore are the vital and most utilised seaways, daily, connecting the ports of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Oceans, especially those of East Asia.
